All we women love jewellery. Men too these days. Sometimes we want something exotic and expensive. Something unique. Mostly however we want something we can wear everyday and change as we change our outfits. When I "retired" I wanted to indulge myself in something I have loved all my life... but work got in the way. Nursing, then nurse management, and my love of jewellery and beautiful soft silks was put into the background and was an indulgence.
Then I discovered travel, and the days of retirement early turned into a need for a hobby. Travelling through Malaysia, and China I began to make friends and was introduced to the cities and towns and villages where the most beautiful silks were made. Where the most gorgeous jewellery is made... and I bought everything I loved.
When I came home to Australia each time, friends would ask for similar pieces. Soon, the hobby became a small business and the visits to China and Malaysia and throughout Asia became business trips. 55 is too young to retire, and being "in business" became a drug!
There is a phrase in Australia that something "grows like topsy". With my partner who blessed me with his marketing skills, we grew, and grew. Well, that's the history of how my jewellery collection became a business.

Think Tank has sprouted arms and legs I could never imagine before I felt financially and emotionally secure. Of course being a "manager" helps. My partner is a wizard with electronics. He is a master at marketing. He is useless at paperwork, and, while he can make money and has absolutely no idea about how to hold on to it. I bet a lot of us have partners like that. My advice? Keep them working and don't let them touch the housekeeping!
